The University of Findlay men’s basketball team had its five-game win streak snapped on Saturday as it fell 65-61 in overtime to Wayne State at The Matthaei in Detroit.
The Oilers led 29-26 at the half and played hard throughout the game but struggled to take care of the basketball as they turned the ball over 23 times. The Warriors scored 25 points off of those mistakes.
Findlay is now 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. After the game, I talked with seniors Brad Piehl and Jack Smith and head coach Charlie Ernst. Click on the links below to listen to the interviews.
UF Forward Brad Piehl: The senior scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. His shot at the end of regulation went off the glass as the Oilers were forced into overtime. Piehl has scored in double figures eight times this season.
UF Forward Jack Smith: Smith was called upon to start with Jake Heagen out and he stepped up, dropping in 17 points and grabbing sxi rebounds. Smith hit two treys and has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.
UF Head Coach Charlie Ernst: Ernst is now 33-10 as the head coach of the Oilers. He is 20-7 against GLIAC opponents and is 2-2 against the Warriors.
