State Swimming: Hinesman, Hopkins finalists in 3 events

Findlay High School seniors Dietrich Hinesman and Kyle Hopkins are going to be a busy boys Saturday.
Both qualified for the finals in three events to lead the Trojans’ boys swim team on the first day of competition for Division I swimmers at the OHSAA state championships in Canton.
All finalists are assured of at least a top 16 finish and all-Ohio honors.
Hinesman advanced the finals in a pair of individual events and as a member of a relay for the Trojans.
Hinesman picked up the eighth and final spot in the “A” final of the 50 free with a time of 46.6 seconds. He had to settle for a spot in the “B” final in the 100 free after qualifying ninth with a time of 21.35 seconds, just .02 second out of the final spot in the “A” final.
He also teamed with Kyle and Justin Hopkins and Tucker Stocker to qualify for the “B” final in the 400 free relay with the 15th fastest time in 3:13.99.
Hinesman just missed a finals berth in a fourth relay as he joined Jeremy Wilson, Justin Hopkins and Stocker to place 18th in the 200 free relay (1:28.64), .08 out of the 16th and last finals spot.
Kyle Hopkins, meanwhile, will swim in the “B” final of the 100 backstroke after posting a ninth-place qualifying time of 52.39 seconds in the 100 backstroke. He qualified for the “B” final of the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.8.
The Trojans’ Justin Hopkins was 22nd in the 500 free (4:43.11) while the 200 medley relay team of Kyle Hopkins, Stocker, Wilson and Graham Copus placed 20th in 1:39.8.
Ada’s swimmers will compete in the boys Division II finals tonight beginning at 5 p.m.
