Boys Sectional Tourney begins tonight

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times … well, that’s the dangers of tournament basketball.
Findlay and Oregon Clay will square off for the third time this season when the Trojans (14-8) and Eagles (1-20) meet in the second game of today’s Division I sectional tournament at Liberty-Benton.
Perrysburg (13-8) and Lima Senior (7-15) meet in today’s 6:15 p.m. opener. The winners return Friday for the sectional finals.
Findlay swept Oregon Clay in home-and-home Three Rivers Athletic Conference play, winning 64-47 at home and 71-53 at Clay. Coaches stress, though, that everyone starts tournament play with a clean slate, and beating a team three times in one season is never a sure thing.
Findlay’s girls basketball team found that out the hard way last Saturday. The Trojans had beaten Lima Senior twice in their TRAC regular-season matchups. But the Spartans got a basket from Indiya Benjamin with 8 seconds left and upended the Trojans 60-58.
Rematches will highlight a number of games as boys sectional tournament play gets under way.
At Otsego, Patrick Henry and Swanton, who squared off Friday in the final game of the regular season, will tip it off again in a Division III sectional contest. The Patriots are just 2-18, but one of those wins was Friday’s 50-48 Northwest Ohio Athletic League victory over the Indians (8-14).
In today’s Division III games at Findlay High, Lakota (8-14) and Fostoria (3-19) kick things off at 6:15 p.m., with Carey (15-7) and Van Buren (4-18) meeting in a second-game rematch. Carey topped the Black Knights 70-41 in a nonleague contest two weeks ago.
In a Division II sectional semifinal at Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky (12-10) and Shelby (12-9) have nearly identical records. The Rams, though, will be looking to avenge a 51-34 loss to the Whippets in December.
Today’s Division IV semifinals at Ottawa-Glandorf and Paulding will also feature rematches.
McComb, which beat Pandora-Gilboa 54-43 in a Blanchard Valley Conference matchup this season, will be looking for a sweep when the Panthers (13-9) and Rockets (4-18) meet at O-G. Kalida will be looking for revenge against Ayersville, a team it lost to 50-43 two weeks ago, when the Wildcats (9-12) take on the Pilots (12-10) at Paulding.
In other Division IV sectional play today, Ridgemont (9-13) and Ada (6-15) clash at Kenton and Ottoville (8-14) takes on Lima Perry (7-15) at Van Wert.
