Prep Softball Roundup: Elmwood allows no hits in pair of wins

 

NORTH BALTIMORE — Miranda Benschoter tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in Elmwood’s 8-1 victory against North Baltimore and combined with Jasmine Marsh to allow no hits in the Royals’ five-inning 11-1 win against McComb on Saturday.
Benschoter worked 10 innings total, striking out 22 batters and issuing six walks to pick up the victory in both contests.
Olivia Myers singled three times, doubled and drove in a pair of runs, Lindsay George added three singles and an RBI, Rebecca Harvey smacked two triples and drove in two runs and Madison Arnold contributed two singles and two RBIs as the Royals (5-1) rolled past McComb (1-6).
Benschoter hit three singles and drove in two runs, Arnold tripled, singled and had an RBI, Chelsie Schmitz had an RBI double and Kristi Reiser tripled and singled in Elmwood’s win against North Baltimore (2-4).
The Tigers picked up a 13-3 victory against McComb in the third game of the triangular.
Jasmine Bretz singled, doubled and drove in three runs, Rachel Peters added three singles and an RBI and Hanna Brian recorded a single and a triple for North Baltimore.
Brenna Dee hit a single and a double and Bridgette Swartz doubled to lead McComb.

NEW RIEGEL — Lauren Zoeller and Morgan Noftz combined for 12 singles, a double and eight runs as New Riegel knocked off Margaretta 10-2 and Willard 14-1 in nonconference softball action on Saturday.
Taylor Kirian (9-0) picked up the win in both games, pitching seven total innings and allowing one earned run on two hits. Elyssa Theis pitched both games in relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five total innings pitched.
The Blue Jackets (9-0) had 31 hits on the day.

MARION — Marion Harding plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the first game to extra innings and rallied for two runs in the eighth to defeat Findlay 8-7 in a doubleheader sweep of the Trojans on Saturday.
The Presidents topped Findlay 9-6 in the second contest.
Taylor Steinke homered, singled and drove in two runs for the Trojans (1-5) in the opening game.
Findlay was led by Mackenzie Atchison’s single, double and RBI in the nightcap.

OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf improved its record to 4-1 by sweeping a nonconference doubleheader with Antwerp by a combined score of 29-1 on Saturday.
The Titans got a single and a double from Michelle Sdao in their 22-0 win in the first contest, with Stephanie Hempfling earning the win in the circle.
Megan Kitchen was the winner in Ottawa-Glandorf’s 7-1 decision in game two. Tasha Cass and Kate Kaufman each had a double for the Titans.

LEIPSIC — Ottoville scored four runs in the first three innings, but Leipsic held the Big Green off the scoreboard the rest of the way and plated a run in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 5-4 Putnam County League win on Saturday.
Haley Gerten (1-0) picked up the victory in the circle and had a pair of singles at the plate to support her own cause. Paige Sickmiller singled three times and Melinda Amador added a double for the Vikings (1-5, 1-0 PCL).
Haley Landwehr and Taylor Boecker each singled twice for Ottoville (0-4, 0-2).

ARLINGTON — Megan Johnson ripped five singles on the day and Hannah Johnson had five hits as well, including a triple, as Arlington’s softball team rolled past Hopewell-Loudon 11-1 and 16-7 in a nonleague doubleheader on Saturday.
The Red Devils (6-0) had 31 total hits. Britnee Johnson picked up her fifth win in as many games on the mound in the first contest, and Megan Johnson got her first win of the season in the second game.
Emma Kirby hit two singles and a triple to lead Hopewell-Loudon (1-6) at the plate.

LIMA — Allie Rutter allowed one earned run on six hits in seven innings and Fostoria St. Wendelin banged out 12 hits to earn a 7-1 victory in the second contest and a split of a nonleague doubleheader against Lima Central Catholic on Saturday.
Mikayla Gilliland and Meghan Reiter each singled twice and drove in a pair of runs a piece, while Sammie Digby tripled, singled and had two RBIs for the Mohawks (2-4).
Despite nine hits in the first game, St. Wendelin could only plate one run in a 3-1 defeat to the Thunderbirds.
Meghan Reiter doubled twice, Edy Mowrey singled, doubled and drove in a run and Cailin Reineck added a double for the Mohawks.

AYERSVILLE GREAT 8 TOURNAMENT
AYERSVILLE — Van Buren dropped an 11-0 decision to Napoleon and fell 12-1 to Tinora for an eighth place finish at Ayersville’s Great 8 Tournament on Saturday.
Napoleon scored five runs in the first two innings to grab a 5-0 lead. Julianna Wulf homered, while Allison Lamming and Madison Smith each added three singles for the Wildcats.
Van Buren (3-3) cut Tinora’s lead to 3-1 in the third inning of the second contest, but the Rams closed with nine runs over the final three innings.
Kila Fultz doubled and Brylie Rampe added two singles for the Black Knights.

VANLUE — Vanlue’s softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the first of a doubleheader with Tiffin Calvert at eight, but the Senecas came right back with two in the eighth and held the Wildcats scoreless in the home half to win.
Nicole Bickley and Gabby Bennett picked up wins and combined for seven hits, including two doubles, for Tiffin Calvert (5-1). The Senecas had 28 total hits.
Courtney Keeney ripped a double, two singles and drove in four total runs for Vanlue (3-3).
