Findlay High Roundup: Trojans win in Curlis’ return

Connor Curlis made a triumphant return to the lineup, Grant Akin had three hits and scored three times, and Findlay High’s baseball team continued its current hot streak with a 5-2 win over Fremont Ross in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference game at the FHS Diamond on Wednesday.
Curlis, sidelined since April 11 with an injury, made an immediate impact on the mound and at the plate. The junior left-hander started and pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and striking out eight. Senior Jackson Geyer struck out the side in the seventh to get the save.
Curlis singled in one run in the first inning and another in the fourth. Akin scored the first inning run after being hit by a pitch, singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Rodman in the second and singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Roche in the third. Akin also had a double, and Wesley Breitigam had two hits as Findlay won its third straight and fourth in five games.
The Trojans, 7-6 overall and 2-1 in the TRAC, continue their extended home stand today with a nonleague contest with Lima Shawnee (7-7).

Tennis tops AW
Findlay High’s boys tennis team swept the singles matches in chalking up a 3-2 victory over Anthony Wayne in a nonleague match at the FHS Courts on Wednesday.
Reid Teatsorth, Max MacDonald and Jake Elbin lost just seven games in their three singles matches.
Teatsorth beat Todd Guadiola 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and MacDonald reversed that score in a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Sam Shook at No. 2. Elbin stepped in a No. 3 singles and posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jack Colburn.
Antony Wayne (6-3) took the doubles matches, with Austin Kamwiski and Austin Adams (No. 1) doubling up Logan Sullivan and Brent Gorman 6-4, 6-4, and Tyler Roeber and Sam Barrett (No. 2) outlasting Tanner Graves and David Hoban, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Findlay, 9-2 overall and 3-1 in Three Rivers Athletic Conference play, will be looking to earn a share of the league lead today when the Trojans battle preseason favorite Toledo St. John’s (9-1, 3-0 TRAC).
