BVC Softball: Van Buren’s Miller KOs Hardin Northern

DOLA — Van Buren scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Black Knights handed Hardin Northern its first Blanchard Valley Conference loss of the season with a 6-0 win over the Polar Bears on Wednesday.
Nichole Miller went the distance and struck out eight in a four-hit shutout.
Miller also starred at the plate for the Black Knights (6-10 overall, 3-2 BVC) with two doubles, two singles and a pair of RBIs. Samantha Hagans’ two-run single was the catalyst for Van Buren’s big sixth.
Brooklyn Watts doubled to lead the Polar Bears (6-4, 4-1).

Hannah Johnson tripled and drove in a run while Britnee Johnson picked up the win to help Arlington stay undeafeated in Blanchard Valley Conference play by knocking off Liberty-Benton 5-2 in softball action Wednesday.
Arlington (12-3, 6-0 BVC) broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth and added two more in the seventh. Katie Devore led Liberty-Benton (5-8, 3-3 BVC) with two singles and an RBI.

McCOMB — McComb’s Brooke Metzker raced home on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Panthers earned their first Blanchard Valley Conference softball win of the season by edging Pandora-Gilboa 4-3.
Brenna Dee and Haley Buck had two hits and an RBI each for McComb (3-12 overall, 1-5 BVC). Buck actually singled ahead of Metzker in the ninth inning, but was out at the plate on a suicide squeeze play.
Vivian Nofziger, Shana Hovest and Brittany Reigle had two hits each for P-G (2-8, 2-5).

RAWSON —Vanlue scored eight times in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in posting a 14-9 Blanchard Valley Conference softball win over Cry-Rawson.
Sami Hausserman earned the win inside the pitching circle for Vanlue (5-9, 3-3 BVC). The sophomore also led the Wildcats at the plate, lining three singles and a double and driving in three runs. Kate Clymer homered, with Grace Wagner (2-1B), Haley Bonham 1B, 2B) and Chelsi Hartman (2-1B) collecting two hits each.
Mikaela Ricksecker (1B, 2B) and Amie Ricksecker (2-1B) had two hits each for Cory-Rawson (0-9, 0-5 BVC).
