Prep Softball Roundup: Arlington inches toward BVC crown

ARLINGTON — Arlington broke a close game wide open with an eight-run barrage in the third inning and moved within one league win of a third straight Blanchard Valley Conference softball championship with a 12-2 romp over Vanlue on Friday.
Arlington, 13-3 overall, remained unbeaten in BVC play at 7-0. The Red Devils, who won the outright BVC title last year and shared it with Liberty-Benton in 2012, can clinch at least a share of the 2014 title with a win at Hardin Northern (6-5, 4-1 BVC) on Monday.
To complete BVC play, Arlington also has to reschedule a game with Leipsic (4-11, 1-3 BVC) that was postponed by bad weather on April 28.
Courtney Stoltz drove in four runs with a pair of triples in Friday’s game. Winning pitcher Britnee Johnson (1B, 2B) and Aaliah Comstock (2-1B) added two hits each for Arlington. Courtney Keeney and Grace Wagner both had two hits for Vanlue (5-10, 3-4 BVC).

Samantha Johnson, Maddy Pape and Brea Minnich each hit two singles and drove in two runs for the Eagles (6-11, 4-4 BVC).
Taylor Marshall had an RBI-single for Cory-Rawson (0-10, 0-6 BVC).

GALION — Galion scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning against Riverdale to snap the Falcons’ eight-game win streak with a 3-2 North Central Conference victory
Calli Bauer doubled, singled and drove in a run to lead Galion (7-11, 5-3 NCC), and Maddy Garverick pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
Shelby McKamey singled and drove in two runs for Riverdale (10-8, 3-5 NCC). Aricka Hill added two singles.

COLUMBUS GROVE — A five-run first inning put Columbus Grove well on its way Friday and the Bulldogs defeated Pandora-Gilboa 12-2 in a Putnam County League softball game.
Hope Schroeder doubled, homered and pitch a complete-game victory for Grove (9-4, 3-0 PCL). Katie Roose added two hits, including a double.
Jenna Sigler doubled for Pandora-Gilboa (2-8, 0-2 PCL).

CONTINENTAL — McKenna Scott belted two of Continental’s four triples and drove in four runs as the Pirates opened Putnam County League softball play with a 15-3 romp over Leipsic.
Emily Logan and Lexi Doster also tripled, Kiana Warnement had two doubles an a single, and Sloane Zachrich drove in three runs with a pair of doubles for Continental (5-6, 1-0 PCL).
Haley Gerten had two base hits for Leipsic (4-13, 2-3 PCL).

TOLEDO — Toledo Whitmer pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip Findlay 2-1 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference game.
Taylor Steinke singled and had a stolen base to lead Findlay. Makayla Taylor had two singles and got the win in the circle to lead the Panthers.

MILLER CITY — Cassie Niese drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the 10th inning Friday as Miller City defeated Antwerp 7-6 in a nonconference softball game.
Liz Schimmoeller doubled twice, drove in two runs and pitched a perfect 10th inning to get the win. Jessica Vennekotter drove in a pair of runs and Alissa Schnipke had a pair of singles and an RBI for the Wildcats (5-5).

FOSTORIA — Otsego’s five-run third inning was too much for Fostoria to overcome as the Redmen dropped an 11-2 Northern Buckeye Conference game to the Knights.
Alexus Smith and Cyenna Lindsey both doubled and Breanna Biles added an RBI single for the Redmen (4-10 overall, 0-4 NBC).
