Prep Baseball Roundup: O-G wins first ever outright WBL title

ELIDA — Matt Warnecke pitched a complete game shutout, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and no walks in seven innings as Ottawa-Glandorf topped Elida 4-0 at Ed Sandy Field to capture the first outright Western Buckeye League baseball title in school history.
It was the school’s first WBL baseball crown of any kind since 1982.
Tyler Zender doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs, Warnecke recorded a single and two RBIs and Tanner Schimmoeller notched a double and a single for the Titans (14-4, 8-1 WBL).
Elida fell to 7-14 overall and 0-6 in the WBL with the loss.

OTTOVILLE — Miller City broke a 2-2 tie with six runs in the top of the 12th inning to beat Ottoville 8-2 on Tuesday and clinch the Putnam County League baseball championship.
Adam Drummelsmith (4-1) threw two shutout innings and earned the win in relief. Starter Jackson Lammers allowed two unearned runs on just four hits and struck out 10 in 10 innings of work for Miller City (12-4, 6-0 PCL).
Drummelsmith and Corbin Niese had three hits each for the Wildcats.
Joel Beining took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in three innings for Ottoville (6-9, 1-5).
Brad Honigford and Brandon Becker had two hits each for the Big Green.

Brock Boyer doubled twice and drove in three runs for North Baltimore (8-12). Sean Watson singled and knocked in two runs.

LEIPSIC — Zach Shafer tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and Mason Smith put Columbus Grove ahead with an RBI single in the eighth as the Bulldogs outlasted Leipsic 4-1 in a Putnam County League contest.
Shafer had three hits and Smith two for Grove (13-11, 5-2 PCL). Elisha Jones scattered seven hits over eight innings to get the win.
Dylan Schey and Justin Ellerbrock both had two hits for Leipsic (6-15, 2-5 PCL).

LIMA — Hardin Northern raced out to a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but Lima Perry rallied for five runs in the its final three at-bats to edge the Polar Bears 5-4 in a nonleague game.
Rylie Drumm doubled and drove in all four of Hardin Northern’s runs, Brett Roby singled twice and doubled and Kyle Lamb added two singles for the Polar Bears (0-15).
Bailor Buettner tallied a triple, two singles and an RBI for Perry.

TOLEDO — Five errors came back to haunt Van Buren in a 6-2 loss to Toledo Christian in a nonleague baseball game Tuesday.
Starter Isaac Sexton was the tough-luck loser. He allowed six runs but none of the were earned. Ross Adolph and Payten Whitticar had RBIs for the Black Knights (12-6).

TOLEDO — Despite the team only recording four hits, Patrick Henry’s Kyler Seemann scored on an error in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Liberty-Benton 4-3 in a nonleague game at Fifth-Third Field on Tuesday.
Josh Petersen doubled, singled and had an RBI and Logan Ziegler notched a double for the Patriots (16-6).
Anthony Webb recorded a pair of singles and two RBIs, while Mason Rose singled and drove in a run and Jared Neiling suffered his first loss of the season on the mound to fall to 8-1 for the Eagles (19-2).

McGUFFEY — Matthew Alspach singled twice, walked twice and scored three times and Cory-Rawson overcame a 5-4 deficit with a five-run sixth inning in beating Upper Scioto Valley 11-6 on Tuesday.
Lance Butler batted seven times in the seven-inning game, driving in four runs with a two-run single and a pair of sacrifice flies. Austin Miller had a single and a double for Cory-Rawson (3-14), and Lane Hurley had the same for USV.

CAREY — Carey outhit state-ranked Seneca East 8-7 on Tuesday. But while the Blue Devils were getting on base, the Tigers were driving in runs in a 10-1 Midland Athletic League win that moved Seneca East one step closer to an outright conference title.
Ethan Caudill (2-1B, RBI) and Mason McWilliams (1B, 2B, 2-RBI) led Seneca East as the Tigers, ranked No. 1 among Ohio’s Division IV programs, improved to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the MAL.
Steve Yonts had three singles and Satchel Strahm and Matt Holsinger added two each for Carey (4-11, 2-5 MAL).
