Sectional Softball Roundup: Kliesch fans 17 in Vanlue win

VANLUE — Vanlue freshman Olivia Kliesch recorded 17 strikeouts as the Wildcats edged Waynesfield-Goshen 6-5 in a nine-inning Division IV sectional semifinal on Monday.
Vanlue advances to the sectional final at New Riegel (19-4) Thursday at 5 p.m.
Haley Bonham had a double, two singles and two RBIs, while Chelsi Hartman and Kate Clymer each finished with two singles and an RBI for Vanlue (6-13).
Jenna Crawford, Paige Crawford and Abbie Van Horn each contributed a single and an RBI for Waynesfield-Goshen.

NORTH BALTIMORE — North Baltimore’s Cheyenne Hernandez lost her no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning, but the Tigers had plenty of offense, defense and pitching in an 11-1 win over Kalida in a Division IV sectional softball matchup.
Hernandez (5-3) struck out six in five innings and allowed only a fourth inning single by Nicole Recker.
Hanna Brian drove in four runs with a double and two singles and Jasmine Bretz had a two-run double for North Baltimore. The Tigers, 8-12 and seeded fourth in the sectional, will face No. 3-seeded Miller City (10-6) at in Thursday’s sectional final at Miller City.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Upper Scioto Valley scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Riverdale answered that with 11 of its own in the bottom half of the frame en route to a 13-3 Division IV sectional semifinal win in five innings on Monday.
The Falcons (14-9) advance to the sectional final at Arlington (15-4) Thursday at 5 p.m.
Riverdale was led by Aricka Hill’s triple, single and three RBIs. Janessa Taylor added a double, a single and an RBI, Taylor Farmer recorded a pair of singles and drove in a run and Julia Naus singled three times.
Maddison Lowery tallied three singles and Ashley Hoy finished with two singles for the Rams.

CAREY — Ali Rymer scattered four hits across seven innings, struck out seven and did not issue a walk as Carey blanked Ridgemont 6-0 in a Division IV sectional semifinal Monday.
The Blue Devils (14-6) advance to the sectional final at Arcadia (13-6) Thursday at 5 p.m.
Dani Berardinelli-Clark singled twice and drove in two runs, Taylor Fletcher notched a single and two RBIs and Rymer added a single and an RBI for Carey.
Aislinn McCullough led Ridgemont with a triple and a single.

MCCOMB — Cory-Rawson’s senior veterans got a little help from some talented underclassmen when the Hornets topped McComb 14-9 in a Division IV sectional softball matchup on Monday.
Seniors Jordan Hector and Dana Miller had two hits each, including a two-run inside-the-park home run by Hector that highlighted Cory-Rawson’s four-run first inning. The Hornets also got solid play from two freshmen, with Brooklyn Shoemaker lining two hits and Brittany Roth adding a two-run single and earning the win inside the circle.
Cory-Rawson, 3-11 and the 12th-seeded team among the 12 schools making up the Elida District, travels to Patrick Henry on Thursday to face the No. 1 Patriots (17-3) in a sectional final.
Brenna Dee had a big game for McComb, belting two doubles and a triple. Jenna Lanning also had three hits for the Panther (3-19).
