Sectional Baseball: Grove blanks Kalida to win Div. IV title

COLUMBUS GROVE — Elisha Jones pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout as Columbus Grove blanked Kalida 6-0 in a Division IV sectional baseball final on Friday.
Columbus Grove (14-11), which won its first sectional title since 1996, will play Miller City at 4:30 Wednesday at Elida, while Kalida fell to 8-15.
Riley Brubaker doubled and singled for the Bulldogs, and Reid Stechschulte singled and drove in two runs.

OTTAWA — Brad Croy belted three singles and a double and drove in two runs while Matt Warnecke gave up one earned run on seven hits as Ottawa-Glandorf took care of Bluffton 9-1 in a Division III sectional baseball final on Friday.
The Titans (19-5) will play St. Henry at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ohio Northern University.
Austin Williams (double, single) and Drew Schierloh (two singles) each had two hits for Ottawa-Glandorf.
James Harrod, Chris McClain and Brett Rumer each singled twice for the Pirates (12-9).

MILLER CITY — Ross Lehman belted a home run while allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings pitched as Miller City edged Leipsic 4-2 in a Division IV sectional baseball final on Friday.
Lehman (7-1) had nine strikeouts and two walks. Jackson Lammers doubled for the Wildcats (15-5), who will play Columbus Grove in a district semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Elida.
Grant Rader took the loss for Leipsic (8-17).

NORTH BALTIMORE — Carey scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back Friday in a 7-3 win over North Baltimore in the Division IV baseball sectional finals.
Matt Holsinger allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out seven for Carey (6-13), which will face Arlington on Wednesday at Findlay in the district semifinal round.
Holsinger also went 2 for 4 and knocked in a pair of runs.
Brody Naugle was 1 for 2 for North Baltimore (9-14).

NEW RIEGEL — Michael Kirian allowed an earned run on three hits and had nine strikeouts as New Riegel knocked off Buckeye Central 4-1 in a Division IV sectional baseball final on Friday.
Austin Mathias singled twice, Jake Dryfuse doubled and both players had an RBI for New Riegel (12-10), which will play Mohawk in a district semifinal game on Wednesday at 4:30 at Colonel Crawford High School.

TIFFIN — Austin Shock fired a four-hit shutout to help Mohawk past Tiffin Calvert 1-0 in a Division IV sectional baseball final at Zip Zalar Field.
Austin Harper had an RBI single to deliver the game’s only run.
Mohawk (12-11) advances to play New Riegel (12-10) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Colonel Crawford in the Division III district semifinals.
The Senecas bow out of the sectional tournament with a 16-5 record.

Huron 1
HURON — Kyle Kovach drove in the game’s only run and also earned the win on the mound as Huron beat Hopewell-Loudon 1-0 Friday in the sectional championship round of the Division III baseball playoffs.
Kovach allowed three hits and struck out four in six-plus shutout innings. Reliever Tommy Bogden came in to get the game’s final two outs in the seventh inning for Huron (17-7).
Kovach also drove in Andrew Dowell in the fourth inning for the game’s only run.
Garret Sendelbach (6-4) took the loss for Hopewell-Loudon (15-9).
Ryan Depinet, Bryan Scherger and Austin Tooker all singled for the Chieftains.
Huron will play New London on Thursday at Heidelberg University in Tiffin in the district semifinal.

HAMLER — Josh Petersen pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven as Patrick Henry cruised past Wayne Trace 10-0 in six innings in a Division IV sectional baseball final on Friday at Garrold Parratt Field.
Kollin Spence and Joey Nickels each smacked two singles and drove in a run, while Logan Ziegler doubled and had two RBIs, for the Patriots (18-8) who will face the Holgate in a district semifinal at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elida’s Ed Sandy Field.
