District Track Roundup: O-G leads Defiance District

DEFIANCE — Ottawa-Glandorf’s boys track team won the 3,200-meter relay Wednesday to grab a share of the first-day lead with 25 points in the Division II track and field district meet at Defiance High School.
O-G’s girls got a victory in the discus from Anna Bellman and are second (20 point) behind Wauseon (24) with three events completed in the girls meet.
The meet continues Friday. The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet May 29 and 31 in Dayton.
Brad Recker, Sid Moening, Trevor Ellerbrock and Matias Trampe-Kindt finished in 8:13.28. Colin Laubenthal advanced by placing fourth in the pole vault (13-8) and Ben Recker was third in the shot put (47-8).
Wauseon’s boys also have 25 points. Fostoria and Upper Sandusky are tied for ninth (8 points).
Fostoria’s Rayshon Martin took second in the long jump (20-61/4), while Upper’s Collin Gardner was fourth in the shot put (47-4).
Bellman threw 124-7 to win the discus. O-G’s Alex Verhoff, Kialee Koch, Elissa Ellerbrock and Kelly Schmitz finished third in the 3,200 relay (9:58.18).
Upper Sandusky’s girls are tied for seventh with 8 points. Mallory Weininger was second in the high jump (5-1).

Hoerig leads FHS qualifiers
TIFFIN — Findlay High’s Chase Hoerig placed second in the pole vault Wednesday to highlight the first day of competition at the Divison I track and field district meet at Tiffin’s Frost-Kalnow Stadium.
Hoerig vaulted 13-9 to advance to the regional meet May 28 and 30 at Amherst Steele High School. The top four finishers in each event qualify for the regional; the district meet will continue Friday.
Findlay’s Joseph Misamore, Patrick Breen, Isaiah Gaines and Boden Fisher placed fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in 8:19.47. Findlay currently sits fifth through four completed events with 13 team points; Sandusky leads with 29 followed by Fremont Ross (24) and Celina (22).
Findlay’s girls are fourth with 111/2 points through three events. Ashland (26) leads, followed by Sandusky Perkins (17) and Norwalk (14).
Findlay’s Emily Stahl, Sarah Barwig, Mia Johnson and Lindsey Broerman placed second in the 3,200 relay in 9:59.76.

Leppelmeier wins shot
FREMONT — McComb’s Molly Leppelmeier and Leipsic’s Holly Averesch finished 1-2 in the shot put in District 1 on Wednesday to highlight the first day of competition at the Division III girls district meets at Fremont Ross High School.
Leppelmeier threw 42-9 and Aversch 35-6 as both advanced to the regional meet May 28 at 30 at Tiffin.
The top four finishers in each event at the district meets advance to regional competition.
Danbury took the early lead in District I with 25 team points through four event finals. Carey (201/2) is second, with McComb and St. Wendelin (20) tied for third. Leipsic (14) is fifth, Hopewell-Loudon (13) tied for sixth and Continental (3) 10th.
In District II, Gibsonburg (331/2 points) leads Fremont St. Joseph (31) and Toledo Christian (26) through five events. North Baltimore (1) is tied for 10th.
In District 1, Hopewell-Loudon’s Kiley Siegel won pole vault with a 9-0 mark. St. Wendelin’s Sara Goddard (8-6), and Carey’s Christy Wickiser (8-0) and Shelby Snyder (7-0) also advanced.
St. Wendelin’s Victoria Volpe, Jocelyn Reinhart, Maddie Borer and Sophia Volpe took second in the 3,200 relay (10:16.51) behind Tiffin Calvert (10:13.73).
Leipsic’s Brenna Schroeder, Linday Rieman, Libby Quintero and Rachel Rieman were third in 10:46.32; while Carey’s Joanna Worst, Kristina Nusbaum, Taylor Watkins and Jaclyn Troiano placed fourth in 11:15.12.
McComb freshman Nora Heminger was third in the high jump (4-8).
