Prep Golf Roundup: Trojans win Ashland Invitational

ASHLAND — Findlay High School’s Spencer Shoemaker and Tyler Parish finished 1-2 to lead the Trojans’ boys golf team to the team championship at Thursday’s Ashland Invitational.
The Trojans cruised to the title with a 311-321 margin over Upper Arlington.
Shoemaker was medalist with a 71 as he finished strong by shooting 5-under par for the final eight holes. Parish was second in the medalist standings four strokes back. Sam Griffith shot an 80 and Van Mallett added an 85 to complete the scoring for the Trojans. Logan Bern added a 96.
Van Buren was ninth in the team standings with 365 strokes.
Findlay’s Logan Sullivan shot a 92. as Findlay’s junior varsity team played in a varsity tournament Thursday, finishing 14th in the Centerville Elks Invitational.
Chad Quanrud (98), Brock Milum (99), Cole Weickert (104) and Joey Tornes (107) also played for the Trojans.

H-L’s Gorrell shoots 66
TIFFIN — There was Hopewell-Loudon senior Bryce Gorrell and then there was everyone else at Thursday’s Seneca East Invitational.
Gorrell fired a 4-under par 66 to lead the Chieftains to the team title at Clinton Heights Golf Course. Gorrell shot a 32 on the front nine and 34 on the back to help Hopewell-Loudon top runner-up Tiffin Columbian 327-347.Van Buren (351) was fourth and Mohawk (355) placed fifth. New Riegel (8th, 373), North Baltimore (12th, 385), Fostoria (13th, 385), Elmwood (17th, 419) and Riverdale (19th, 478) also played in the event.
Tyler Rohe shot an 83, Garret Sendelbach (86) and Deavan Gosche (92) completed the scoring for Hopewell-Loudon.
Mohawk’s Brayden Dunlap was second in the medalist standings with a 79.

L-B takes crown
BELLEFONTAINE — Adam August led the way with a team-best 73 Thursday, and Liberty-Benton’s depth carried the day as the Eagles got the edge of a fifth-man tiebreaker to win the Ryan Reynolds Invitational hosted by Bellefontaine High School at Liberty Hills Golf Course.
West Liberty-Salem and L-B each shot a 312 but the Eagles’ Elliot Logsdon carded an 81 in the No. 5 spot to defeat West Liberty-Salem’s fifth man by 12 strokes.
West Liberty-Salem did have the tourney individual medalist as Nick Sims fired a 66. August was second for L-B. Jackson Logsdon (79), Kaiden Robinson (80) and Tyson Neiling (80) also scored for the Eagles.

Kalida wins at Paulding
PAULDING — Jeff Knueve and Collin Nartker had top five individual finishes to lead Kalida to the championship in Thursday’s Paulding Invitational at Auglaize Golf Club.
Knueve was fourth with a 74 and Collin Nartker was next at 75 as Kalida topped Wauseon 310-323 for first place.
Patrick Henry’s led by Aaron Tietje’s 79 was 10th with 372 strokes. Ottoville’s Wesley Markward was third individually with a 74 as the Big Green (380) was 12th as a team. Fort Jennings (404) finished 16th.
Wauseon’s Trevor Dominique was the medalist with a 71.

Lammers leads Miller City
VAN WERT — Davis Lammers shot an 82 to help Miller City finish second at Thursday’s Lincolnview Invitational at Hickory Sticks Golf Course.
Fort Recovery topped Lincolnview 337-346 for first place. Miller City (364) was third. Columbus Grove (390) and Leipsic (402) were sixth and seventh respectively.
Cody Sheets (88), Jacob Schimmoeller (95) and Adam Schroeder (99) and Jordan Schmenk (99) also played for the Wildcats.
