Findlay High Roundup: Boys soccer drops Anthony Wayne

Pace Thomas and Jarett Lewis each had a goal and an assist, and Alexander Majors added a pair of assists, as Findlay defeated Anthony Wayne 4-1 Thursday in a nonconference boys soccer game.
Findlay jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead behind goals by Thomas at the 37:04 mark, assisted by Lewis, and Levi VanDerMolen at the 26:21 mark, assisted by Thomas.
The Trojans (3-0) increased the lead to 3-0 at the 36:48 mark of the second half as Lewis scored on an assist from Majors. Anthony Wayne (1-3-1) got on the board as Evan Black scored on an assist from Chase Mowka with 24:36 remaining, before Findlay iced the game as Taylor Miles scored off a Majors feed with 4:33 remaining.
Findlay’s Aaron Elchert made eight saves as the Generals outshot the Trojans 16-14. For Findlay, Mason Hill had four steals and eight intercepts, while Majors had eight steals and four intercepts.
Findlay plays next at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Ashland.

TCC edges volleyball
TOLEDO — Kelsey Schroeder had 13 kills and Lindsay George dished off 33 assists, but it wasn’t enough for Findlay as Toledo Central Catholic dropped the Trojans Thursday in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference opener for both teams, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-7.
George also connected on 110-111 setting attempts and had 16 digs, and Schroeder was 27 of 32 passing and 16 of 18 serving for Findlay (1-2, 0-1 TRAC).
Patricia Barreto was 18 of 18 serving with 12 kills and five blocks.
Krista Wurm matched George with 16 digs and connected on 26 of 28 setting attempts for Findlay.
Molly Doepker added 11 kills and 13 digs for the Trojans, who play in a quad match Saturday at St. Henry.
Toledo Central Catholic improved to 1-1 and 1-0 in the conference.

Tennis tops Whitmer
Findlay girls tennis team swept both doubles matches and two of three singles matches in defeating Toledo Whitmer 4-1 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference match at the FHS courts.
The Trojans improved to 5-2 overall, 2-1 TRAC. Whitmer fell to 2-5, 0-3 TRAC.
Findlay’s Corinne Huffman downed Whitmer’s Erica Cochenour 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Savannah Hosey followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gabrieel Huff. Whitmer’s Erin Franz defeated Findlay’s Taylor Chester 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Findlay’s Emma Miller and Erin Bosse beat Kelsey Measles and Charity Wagner 6-1, 6-0. Kenna McCaskey and Kendyl Junge closed the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Davina Teschman and Madison Woerner.
The Trojans are off until Tuesday, when they travel to Oregon Clay for a TRAC match.

Griffith medals
FREMONT — Findlay’s Sam Griffith fired a 36 to win medalist honors as the Trojans boys golf team was second Thursday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference nine hole tourney at Fremont Country Club.
Toledo St. John’s won the tourney with a 154, one stroke ahead of Findlay. Oregon Clay was third (163), followed by Toledo St. Francis (166), Toledo Central Catholic (172), Fremont Ross (202) and Toledo Whitmer (210).
For the Trojans, Spencer Shoemaker shot a 39, and Tyler Parish and Logan Bern each carded 40s.
Findlay will compete Saturday in the St. Charles Invitational in Columbus.
