Volleyball Roundup: Scherger records 1,000th kill in New Riegel win

NEW RIEGEL — Senior Kara Scherger had nine kills, including the 1,000th of her career, Thursday as state-ranked New Riegel pounded Lakota 25-8, 25-9, 25-10 in a Sandusky River League volleyball match.
Scherger was 27 of 28 serving with 13 aces, and added 16 digs. Taylor Arbogast had 13 kills for the Blue Jackets (7-1, 2-0 SRL), who are ranked 11th in the latest Division IV Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
Lakota dropped to 1-4, 0-2 SRL.

SYCAMORE — Sheyanne Wilhelm led the way with five kills, five digs and six aces Thursday as state-ranked Mohawk downed Seneca East 25-12, 25-6, 25-17 in a Northern 10 match.
Mya Morris led the Warriors (5-1, 4-1 N10), ranked 20th in the Division III coaches poll, with 12 kills, while MacKenzie Sowers had 15 digs. Stacy Clouse recorded 25 assists.
Seneca East fell to 2-6, 1-4 N10.

Samantha Fruchey added 11 kills and Lauren Parkins had 13 digs to lead the Pirates (1-3)Grace Nickels dished out 11 assists.
Haley Bonham’s 24 assists and Sami Hausserman’s 21 digs led Vanlue (0-4).

Annie Lindeman led the Big Green (4-3) with 13 kills on 21 of 23 hitting.
Lexie Thorbahn had 31 assists on 67 of 70 setting, and Brooke Mangas had eight digs.
Delphos Jefferson fell to 3-1.

FOSTORIA — Fostoria fell to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Northern Buckeye Conference Thursday night with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 loss to Genoa.
Christy Dazely slammed eight kills with seven digs and Madi Mazur added 16 assists and five aces for the Comets (1-5, 1-3).
Individual statistics for the Redmen were not available at presstime.

ROSSFORD — Trailing 2-0, Rossford came back and won three straight games to beat Elmwood 15-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-4 in Northern Buckeye Conference action 15-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-4.
Ashley Veryser finished with 18 kills and five blocks for Elmwood (4-4, 2-2 NBC).
Sam Iabor finished with 15 kills and five digs and Lindsay George added 10 kills and six digs for Elmwood.
Jenna Wilson handed out 38 assists and Sarah Williams finished with 14 digs for the Royals.

Anna Bellman had eight kills and eight blocks as well for the Titans (5-3, 2-0 WBL). Madison Stechschulte dished out 17 assists, and Kayla Leatherman had 12 digs.
Celina dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the WBL.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Jessi Holly had eight kills, nine digs and four aces as state-ranked Upper Sandusky easily beat Bucyrus 25-9, 25-4, 25-9 in Northern 10 Conference volleyball play on Thursday.
Molly Owens and Kalene Johnson had seven kills each and Ali Roeder contributed six for Upper Sandusky (6-1, 5-0 N10), ranked No. 4 in the Division III coaches poll.
Jenna Holly and Ceidyer Niederkohr had nine digs apiece for the Rams.

NEW WASHINGTON — After dropping the first set, Buckeye Central bounced back to knock off Carey 19-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-18 in a Northern 10 Conference volleyball match.
Sydney Wentling had 26 assists on 76 of 81 setting and 10 digs for Carey (5-3, 2-3 N10). Adrienne Hackworth was 17 of 17 serving with two aces, and Shelby Kin was 40 of 43 spiking with 15 kills for the Blue Devils.
Buckeye Central, ranked 10th in Division IV, improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the N10.

Heather Gibson tallied team highs of 36 assists and 21 digs, Natalie Herder finished with 12 digs and three aces and Tara Tietje added 12 digs for the Patriots (5-4, 2-0 NWOAL).
