PREP HOCKEY: Findlay crushes Hudson
It was all Findlay High School at The Cube Friday night.
Andy Martin scored three straight second-period goals to break the game open as Findlay routed Hudson 9-1 in a non-conference hockey match.
It was a match many of the Findlay players, who also played football, were looking forward to as the Explorers ousted the Trojans from the OHSAA Division I playoffs opening round last fall.
Evan Hanawalt opened the scoring for the Trojans with a goal on an assist by Adam Weems at the 10:26 mark of the first period.
Mark Roepke made it 2-0 on a power play goal with 3:39 remaining in the first on assists from Patrick Hall and Martin.
Martin took over after the break.
He scored his first goal on a power play after assists from Ethan Willis and Drew Thompson at 10:47 of the second period.
His second tally, a short-handed goal, came with 8:05 remaining in the second period. His third goal, off an assist by Hindall, with 2:22 to play gave the Trojans a commanding 5-0 lead.
Cory Bern, Drew Thompson and Matt Atkins also scored for the Trojans while teammate Patrick Hall recorded his first goal of the season.
Mason Williams had two assists and Hanawalt, Lucas Stump and Roepke also recorded assists on the Trojans’ final four goals.
Hudson’s lone score came with 1:55 left in the second period as Vince Ripepi found the net on an assist from Dillon Picone.
Findlay’s offense made it look easy, scoring nine times on 31 shots. In the team’s previous five games, the Trojans had scored just five goals on 157 shots.
Findlay goaltender stopped 10 of Hudson’s 11 shots. Marisa Calabro had 21 saves for Hudson.
The Trojans (14-13) are back in action at 6 p.m. today against Sylvania Northview at Tam O’ Shanter.
