BOYS SOCCER: Second-half goal lifts Ada past C-R
RAWSON — There was plenty of scoring in the first half but it was the only second-half goal of the match that proved to be the difference Thursday afternoon at Cory-Rawson.
Ada’s John Woodruff snapped a 3-3 tie with a goal in the second half to lift the Bulldogs to a 4-3 win over Cory-Rawson in the North Central Ohio Soccer Association opener on the Hornets’ homefield.
Cory-Rawson opened the scoring as Ryan Egts shot deflected off an Ada defender and into the net for an own goal.
The Bulldogs’ Jay Spangler scored a pair of goals before Cory-Rawson’s Cole Benner tied the match at 2-2 with a penalty kick.
Spangler scored his third goal of the day off an assist from Caleb Garman.
Cory-Rawson’s Jason Sands tied it at 3-3 just before halftime with a score after an assist from Cole Benner.
Ada (3-1) had a 14-5 edge in shots. Tate Anspach recorded five saves for the Bulldogs while Elliot Ice had 10 saves for Cory-Rawson (1-1).

SYCAMORE — Justin Miller scored three goals in a row in the first half to help Upper Sandusky to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Mohawk Thursday evening.

GIRLS TENNIS: St. Ursula ousts Findlay from team tourney
Findlay High School’s girls tennis team just can’t catch a break.
The Trojans dropped a tough three-set decision at No. 3 singles and No. 1 singles player Meghan Gray was sidelined with an injury as Findlay dropped a 4-1 decision to Toledo St. Ursula in an opening-round match of the Ohio High School Tennis Coaches’ Association team tournament Thursday.
Gray, a sophomore, lost the first set to St. Ursula’s Gabby Gum 6-3 but led the second set 3-2 before having to retire from the match after suffering a shoulder injury.
Junior Alexis Soli pushed St. Ursula’s Alex Nahhas to the limit before dropping a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 decision at No. 3 singles.
Lindsay Barlett picked up the lone win for FHS (5-4) as she knocked off Jenna Macinniak 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
The Arrows (3-2) made it a clean sweep in doubles play.
Nina Farrar and Sydney Seeley stopped Nicole Bosse and Kelly Worstell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Kaylee Koepfer and Amber Fisher downed Findlay’s Abby Arnet and Maggie Kelley 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Findlay will return to action Tuesday when the Trojans travel to Lima Senior for a Greater Buckeye Conference match.
